Maintenance
All fire extinguishers in the United Kingdom are required to be maintained to BS5306 which is the industry standard for fire extinguisher maintenance.
It is incumbent upon the owners of fire extinguishers in the United Kingdom that they are serviced/maintained annually by a certificated fire extinguisher engineer, and, that your fire extinguishers and other fire fighting equipment comply with British Standard 5306.
Your annual service carried out by one of our certificated engineers will ensure that your extinguishers and other fire fighting equipment is continually maintained to comply with the current requirements of BS5306.

Fire Alarms
It is a requirement that will affect almost all commercial and industrial properties and who will require a fire alarm detection system to be supplied, installed and commissioned to ensure an acceptable level of fire protection to life and/or property.
Fire Protection Alliance Ltd can supply and install a Fire Alarm System to meet with the requirements of BS 5839 to suit your individual property and business needs, and we will be pleased to carry out a free survey of your premises and submit a fully costed quotation for your consideration.
Hard wire and radio fire alarm systems are available to suit all needs and requirements of various types of buildings and we will advise you accordingly to suit your individual needs.
When a system has been installed, tested and commissioned by our certificated engineers, we shall supply a commissioning certificate, fire alarm log book in which all events/maintenance visits etc are to be noted.
A Fire Alarm diagram Zonal Chart will be supplied to the client upon completion of an installation.
When handed over to the client all fire alarm systems require to be regularly tested and serviced to ensure compliance with BS5839 as follows:
Daily - Keep a daily record of any faults and report them.
Weekly – A weekly test of the fire alarm is required by activating a different call point or detector to check the system. The test and results of the test must be recorded in the system logbook.
Quarterly - Check the logbook, operate a call point, simulate faults to check the control panel, visually check for any structural alterations, and log all details.
Annually - Carry out normal quarterly testing and also test every detector on site and ensure all cable fittings are secure.

Emergency Lighting
Emergency lighting is required to illuminate in the event of the main power supply failing.
In the event of a mains power failure occurring, the emergency lighting fitments will provide lighting for a minimum period of three hours.
The emergency lighting will also assist in identifying escape routes if directional arrows are used and fitted to the emergency lighting units.
Fire Protection Alliance Ltd can supply, install and maintain your Emergency Lighting for you, we normally carry out the maintenance at the same time as maintaining your fire alarm system thereby cutting costs by coupling the service visit.
Our trained and certified test engineers will carry out your Emergency Light testing as in accordance with BS5266 requirements, these services should be carried out on a 6 monthly basis.
Fire and Safety Signs
It is a legal requirement that all new health and safety signs must now show the appropriate symbol and where necessary supporting descriptive text.
All hazards must be highlighted with a safety sign if they cannot be controlled by other means.
The location of all escape routes must be clearly signed.
Fire Extinguishers/Hose Reels must be clearly identified as to the suitability and use of the equipment.
Employers must provide employees with training regarding the interpretation of all safety signs.

VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection System)
A VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection System) system is a fire detection system that does not operate with standard smoke detectors, a VESDA system uses an active suction system to draw in the air from around a series of pipe runs that are fixed to the ceiling thereby drawing in and sampling the air for any smoke presence through sampling holes at various points on the pipework.
The VESDA control panel has a fan and air filter installed. When functional, the fan draws air through the pipe sample points and back to the control panel where it is monitored for smoke detection which will raise the alarm if smoke is detected.
VESDA systems are usually installed in computer rooms or high level areas where getting access to normal smoke detectors would be difficult and in areas where a proactive detection system giving an earlier warning of smoke being present is required.
